Mamma Mia the Amalfi Drive

Here are a few shots taken from the bus while on the Amalfi Drive. When we stayed in Sorrento we had access to a computer. Each night I wrote an email home to update everyone on what we had done that day. Here’s what I wrote on the day we went to Positano and Amalfi.

Hi Everyone:

Today started out the least foggy of all the days we have been here. We actually saw the sun in the morning. This looked very promising for our day in Positano and Amalfi. Well, it rained just about all day. Of course that was not going to stop us. We hopped on one of the Sita buses right outside the hotel and that is when the fun begins. The drive along the Amalfi coast really is not for the faint of heart!  If I didn’t have skin I think my heart would have literally jumped out of my chest. I don’t think it could have beat any faster than it did. I had a very close relationship with God on the way up and back today. Even a quick prayer in one of the churches we stopped in.  I don’t know how anyone drives that road. If I went back I think I would have to take the boat. Of course I made sure to sit on the side of the bus along the cliff so I could get some pictures. There might be one or two that weren’t shakey!

After walking all over the Isle of Capri and then all through Pompeii and Herculeaneum my legs were jelly after the first walk up a set of stairs in Positano. It’s amazing how they have constructed building right into the cliff. The alley ways were wonderful to meander through and we took a walk along the cliff and ate at a restaurant right along the water (high up of course).

After a few hours in Positano we hopped another bus to Amalfi. This ride was the worst, I think the driver was trying to make up some time. Every corner/hairpin turn, I had to hold onto the chair so I didn’t slide off my seat.

In Amalfi we wandered as many alleys off the beaten path as possible and went into a church where one of the disciples was buried. Can’t think right now to remember who. Amazing church and artifacts. We had some gelato and then headed back to Sorrento.
