House Wren

My childhood bff had an antique/art sale last weekend at her parents house (sadly they both have passed away in the last 6 months). I spent many, many days of my childhood at their house. Too many memories to post here on how wonderful her parents were to me and others. Instead I will focus on the memories from the photo.

Her dad, Gary Murdock was an amazing artist. I bought this carving of the House Wren at the art sale. My parents have a couple of his carvings as well as a painting. I wanted to make sure I bought one for myself to have as a keepsake. I have vivid memories of going to their house and always wanting to go into Mr. Murdock’s studio to see what he was working on. Sometimes it was a wildlife painting and lots of times it was a bird carving.

In college I took a journalism class and one of the assignments was to interview an artist, sports figure, etc. I interviewed Mr. Murdock and got an A on the paper (I don’t think much of it had to do with my writing).

    Wonder-full. In so many ways.

Thank you, Shirley. It really is nice to have a keepsake. And a beautiful piece of art work that will always remind me of my childhood.
