There’s a joke in that title somewhere. Actually, the joke was on me. I thought i was told this boat was called The Charlotte, but I can’t find any information on it. That us until my Dad saw the post this morning and informed me that it’s called a Shallop.
He was kind enough to also provide the following information:
- A large heavy boat, usually having two masts and carrying fore-and-aft or lugsails.
- 2. A small open boat fitted with oars or sails, or both, and used primarily in shallow waters.
Here is a link that will give you more information than anybody needs to know.
As luck would have it this boat was leaving Clark’s Island the same time we were heading back in our kayaks. I was so thrilled to see it. I had seen it off shore but the sails were down and I was saying how awesome it would be to get a picture of it with it’s sails up!
