Green Thingamajig

I’m not good with names…of anything (people, plants, birds, etc.). I liked the look of this plant, especially with the dusting of snow on it.

This was taken with my new Canon ef-s 55-250mm f4/5.6 lens. It’s not a high quality L lens but is instead considered an entry level/amateur lens. At this time I can’t afford an L quality lens but I really wanted a lens with a longer zoom than my current lens (ef-s 17-85mm). I also wanted an affordable, light, and compact lens that would be easy to take with me on vacation. Maybe in the future I’ll be able to afford an L lens but for now I think this will do just fine.

Of course I could have taken this shot with my 17-85mm lens but I need to practice with the new lens and hopefully will come across some situations that benefit from the extended zoom. I think I will find plenty of opportunities when I go on vacation to Florida at the end of the month.

  1. Congrats on the new lens!
I love how this bush looks like trees in this shot.

  2. Nice bokeh…think you made a good choice!

  3. great capture, difficult for the camera to pick up the tones and contrast in snow, your lens did the job well, nice image and well balanced.

  4. Looks like powdered sugar on the Rhodies (Rhododendron). Nice shot.
Don’t know my cameras (or lenses), but I’m starting to learn a few plants.
