Pathway to the 17th Century

This is the Eel River Nature Walkway (the river is on the left). The photo is looking back towards the Wampanoag Homesite. The walkway connects you from the Wampanoag Homesite to the 1627 English Village site. While the Wampanoag Homesite consisted of native people in traditional clothing speaking from a modern perspective it is not the same for the 1627 English Village. Instead, as you enter through the gates of the village you will see people roll playing as 17th Century English Colonists. So, join me next week as we take the Wayback Machine back to 1627. We might even meet a couple of ancestors of mine.

For those of you who may not understand the reference to the Wayback Machine- it’s from the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. There was a short segment on the show about a traveling dog (Mr. Peabody) and his pet boy (Sherman). Using Mr. Peabody’s Wayback Machine, the two would travel through history.

For this shot I combined two images. One image is processed normally, the second image had the antique filter added to it. I layered the images, added a mask and used the gradient tool on the mask. This made it so the background of the image starts in color and then half way dissolves into the antique image. I thought since the walkway was transferring me from the present day to the 17th Century it might be fun to have the image go from color to sepia tone.

  1. I loved the shot anyway (the composition rocks), but hearing what you did to create the shot and taking a closer, slower second look, I love it even more.
