I went to another Photography Meetup meeting last Wednesday and our assignment was to shot images with negative space. Thankfully, we were given some directions on what negative space is and how it can add interest to our shots.
“We spend a lot of time thinking about our subjects: posing them, positioning them in our shot, getting the photo properly exposed, etc. However, the spacearound our main subject is just as important and can really make or break our images.
Negative space can bring a sense of balance to your image and can help draw the eye to the subject and give it more power; it can also add a lot of interest to your shot.”
Here are some really good examples of photos using negative space. This week I’ll post what I think are my 5 best negative space images. Today’s shot might be my best use of negative space but you may think differently.

Very nice. Where was this shot taken?

Thanks, it was taken where you get the Captain John boats. You have to look up to see it.

I really like this picture. Great use of negative space. Your eye keeps getting drawn to his mouth and eye.
