I visited the tiger area twice while at the zoo. When we first arrived in the morning it was very cold and rainy. The white tiger, named Luther was pacing back and forth in a corner area. I felt bad that he seemed so anxious. When I came back later in the afternoon it had stopped raining. At first Luther was pacing but then he came out of the corner, wandered around and had a drink.
I just went onto the zoo’s website and found this information on the tigers. While I didn’t like seeing Luther pacing so much it may be something to do with the neglect he endured.
“Franklin Park Zoo is proud to house Anala (orange) and Luther (white) at our Tiger Tales exhibit. These massive cats came to the Zoo after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service rescued them from owners who were keeping them illegally in neglectful conditions. They now enjoy more comfortable, natural conditions, keeping company with each other in a woodsy habitat with a stream and plenty of sun and shade.”
