One of the highlights of our Hawaiian vacation was snorkeling. We rented great equipment and my cousins took us to a couple of awesome locations. The first day we we tried snorkeling we weren’t even in the water two minutes before spotting a sea turtle. It was amazing to be able to swim with them. You aren’t allowed to touch them so we kept having to back away because they would get so close to you. The one in the photo was swimming right towards me.
The only thing I wish I’d done, at the rental equipment place, was to have rented one of their digital underwater cameras. I had never snorkeled before so I wasn’t sure how I’d like it or if I could operate a camera at the same time. However, I should have gone with my instinct and rented one. Instead, I bought a disposable 35mm film camera at the resort gift shop and used that on our second and third day of snorkeling. I wasn’t sure if anything would actually come out but I was happy that at least one turtle photo came out (with some help from noise reduction software and tweaking in Lightroom) and I love the photo of my brother swimming underwater.
Next time I go someplace snorkeling I think I’m going to have to buy a GoPro camera! Video would be so much better of the amazing underwater sea life. Another adventure to start planning :-).
