Gobble, Gobble

Happy Thanksgiving! There is so much to be thankful for but most of all I am thankful for my wonderful family and good friends in my life.

There’s a funny story behind this turkey photo. Back in June there was a family of 3 wild turkeys that had made their home in the Boston Fenway area. One day I was walking to lunch with a co-worker when we came across the turkeys. I had my iPhone on me and tried to get a shot of them. My co-worker told me to be careful that they would attack me. I told her not to worry that the turkeys were more afraid of us. Well, that must be the country turkeys (the ones in Plympton) because these city turkeys were very aggressive. I actually had to run away from them. For weeks the turkeys hung out in the court yard at my work. They had to send a notice out to us to be careful of the turkeys and not to confront them. I thought I saved the email. I wanted to post it with this picture because I thought it was pretty funny that they had to warn us about wild turkeys.

Anyway, I was videotaping at work one day when I looked out the window and saw the turkeys blocking the door of the building next to us. It was hysterical to see these people trapped inside the doorway because the turkeys would not let them outside. I really wanted to stop taping and run down to take a photo. Instead I had to wait to finish taping, then grabbed the camera and ran outside. The turkeys were no longer blocking the door but instead were mulling around the court yard. I slowly crept up on them, remained calm and was able to get fairly close to take a shot, as you can see from this image.

  1. What a fantastic portrait-such detail and color! And such a great, funny story! I can’t believe that they can just roam around Boston and trap people inside without animal control intervening and relocating them-turkey’s revenge!

  2. Susan, I think they did end up relocating the turkeys.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  3. What a strange, strange creature.

  4. Glad this is the part we don’t eat… ;^)

  5. beautiful colors and textures.
