Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary!

Hopefully, my parents won’t disown me for making them the feature post on the blog today, but I think this is extremely blog worthy…today is their 50th Wedding Anniversary! These days, you mostly hear about people getting divorced so to be celebrating 50 years, I think that is an amazing accomplishment. And they made it look easy (not that it always was but they have made it work with love and respect)!

I don’t think there are words to express how much I love these two people…but I’ll give it a try. They are the kindest, most gracious, supportive, and loving people I know. I thank God every day that they met and that I am blessed to have them as my parents. While they are very humble and perfectly content and happy to be in the background I think they deserve to be center stage. I would love for everyone to see how truely special these two people are. Of course then I’d have to share them with more people so I may change my mind.

My parents did a great job raising us kids (if I do say so myself) and keeping us close as a family as we’ve grown older. We actually still enjoy taking family vacations together as adults. My parents have been wondeful role models. They have never let me down and have always been my biggest supporters. While I never had kids (and after having a kitten for 3 months I realize it might have been for the best 🙂 I am fortunate to have two beautiful nephews. Not only have I enjoyed watching these boys grow but I have loved watching my parents as grandparents. They have so much patience, understanding and love. To see their faces light up when they see their grandchildren or hear the pride in their voices when they talk about them, brings tears to my eyes. I have wonderful memories of my Mom reading books to them and my Dad taking them for rides on the tractor. It’s been inspiring to see how much they truely enjoy being with them.

On Sunday, August 21st we surprised my parents with a family dinner at one of their favorite restaurants. They thought we were all meeting at their house to celebrate my youngest nephew going off to college. However, as my aunts and uncles started to arrive my parents realized something else was going on. We also surprised them with a stretch limo to drive us all to the restaurant. We made sure to have wine chilled and ready for the ride! Everyone really enjoyed their meal and after we were wisked back to the house for presents and a slideshow of old photos to music. While they wished we hadn’t spent so much on them (worth every penny and more) they were very happy to have an evening of good wine, food and company. Another thing they taught me was to enjoy the simple things in life and that there is nothing greater than family.

I love you Mom and Dad. Thank you for showing me what it means to live life gracefully.
