Bay Farm Conservation

On Sunday, March 6th we had unusually warm weather, it was in the low 60s. I was driving around running errands when I decided it was crazy to be in the car on this beautiful day. Since I was in Kingston, I decided I’d drive someplace to walk near the water. Bay Farm Conservation seemed like the perfect spot. I wasn’t thinking it would be so muddy but luckily I had on my LL Bean hiking sneakers 🙂

The path you see here is Bay Circuit Trail. For some reason I’m not sure how it’s possible but I don’t believe I’ve ever walked through here, even though I have passed this spot thousands of times and have always said, “I’ll stop someday.” Well, I’m glad ‘someday’ arrived, because it was just the walk I needed, after all the cold weather we have had this winter.

“Bay Farm, which is located in two towns, is an excellent example of forest succession.  At the turn of the century there were few forests in Duxbury.  Trees were cut for building ships, for masts, firewood and other wood products as well as for farming.  Because the Duxbury portion of Bay Farm is mowed each year, forest encroachment does not occur.  The Kingston portion of the property has not been mowed and forest encroachment is quite evident.  So as you are walking through the cedar hollow you can marvel at the re-growth over the past 20 years.”

  1. Definitely a great place to stop and go for a hike, especially with temperatures in the 60s. Like the low wide angle view of these shots to capture this lovely country landscape.
