The only thing we planned to do on Oahu was to visit Pearl Harbor. We went yesterday and it was quite the moving experience. We were honored to meet “Uncle” Herb Weatherwax (third photo), one of the few living survivors of Pearl Harbor. It’s hard to believe he is 99 years old as he was full of life and so happy to meet and greet anyone that came up to him. You can read some of his amazing story on this Pearl Harbor website.

The top photo is the USS Arizona Memorial. The second photo is one I took of one of the information displays, that gives you an aerial view, so you can see that the “USS Arizona Memorial is built over the remains of the sunken battleship USS Arizona, the final resting place for many of the 1,177 crewmen killed on December 7, 1941 when their ship was bombed by the Japanese Naval Forces. This loss of life represents over half of the Americans killed during the worst naval disaster in American History.”

Photos four and six are parts of the ship that can be seen above the water. The fifth photo shows oil in the water just below the USS Arizona Memorial. The oil is leaking from the sunken USS Arizona. It’s hard to believe that after 75 years oil is still leaking from the ship.
