Gurnet Lighthouse

This is the third shot of a lighthouse on my blog. The Gurnet Lighthouse is by far my favorite lighthouse.  Of course it has to do with the fact that I have spent the past 35+ summers out at Saquish. In order to get to Saquish you have to pass by the Gurnet.  As kids once we could see the lighthouse we knew we were almost to the cottage.

Almost every time I go out to the beach I either walk or drive up to the lighthouse to take a picture or just sit and look out over the ocean.  It's a beautiful spot with a perfect view from every angle. I love the contrast of the white against the blue sky- it's always picture perfect.  This happened to be taken on the day we had really strong winds. When I tried to take the photo from up on the cliff I thought I was going to get blown into the ocean.  As I was heading back to the car I thought this perspective might be interesting and safer!

I'm so excited that summer is almost here. I plan on taking lots of photos out at Saquish!

Great photo! The greens and blues are arresting—did you manipulate the shot to look that way?

Yes, I manipulated the shot to pull the colors out. To my naked eye the blues did look close to this vibrant blue. However, the actual photo looked a bit washed out. I had taken 3 exposures of this image, brought them into the HDR program I have and processed it to get this final image. Glad you like it.

  3. stunning. spectacular. send this to the gurnet people…they would love this i bet!

  4. Love the composition in this one. Very nicely laid out with the fence and tree branches pulling us in. I’m also a big light house fan. They make great subject for photographs.
